Today’s edition of the New York Times includes an article on Massimo Vignelli’s diagrammatic map of the New York subway system. While use of Vignelli’s map was discontinued in 1979, he was recently asked to revise the original map for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s new “Weekender” web site. The new site features an interactive map to keep the public informed of weekend work and closures. Check out the article and the Weekender web site for more details.
The MTA just barely came out with a new map last year. I wonder why they didn’t use that for this application?
Katie, thanks for posting this! It will definitely be useful in my research project based on transit maps.
