Lego Atlanta Transportation

Legoland Discovery Center is being built at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, and they recently announced the ten Atlanta landmarks that will be turned into Lego buildings as part of their display. The list, as seen here in the What Now Atlanta blog, includes buildings such as the Bank of America building, Georgia Dome, the Aquarium, Turner Field, and even Stone Mountain! We’ll leave the discussion of where Tech Tower and Bobby Dodd Stadium are until later, focusing for now on what transportation landmarks in Atlanta should make this list.

  • I think the Atlanta Airport would have to be at the top. All those terminals, the MARTA connection, and the control tower would be a blast to see made out of Legos, not to mention all those Delta and Airtran Southwest planes!
  • The I-75/I-85 connector would be a good addition too – they’d certainly have to purchase plenty of black bricks!
  • Or how about Spaghetti Junction?
  • I think a MARTA station would be a good one to build too, but which is the most impressive looking? Peachtree Center is cool, although underground. Perhaps the Buckhead one, right in the middle of the highway. Or maybe Garnett station as it rises above the street.
  • Lastly, I think using Lego trains to show the rail yards on the west side of town would be a neat addition as well and pay tribute to our city’s beginnings!

  1. The new international terminal would be very cool, but the Atlanta airport as a whole is pretty bland.

I would recommend Arts Center station. They could just build it right next to the High, and it gets the monumental concrete block motif with good representation.

I agree that not having Tech Tower and Bobby Dodd is a disgrace.
