I-285 Speed Limits | ajc.com

According to this AJC article, the DOT is considering placing variable speed limits on I-285 in Atlanta. 65 when conditions are good, 55 when weather or obstacles in the road could be an issue. The article is mostly about the controversy over raising the speed limit. This controversy is imbecilic.

Question: does anybody drive close to 55 on I-285 to begin with?

Answer: no.

  1. Awesome!!! These are actually friends of mine (Kit, Amanda, Andy and Jordan). I had heard them talk about this project, but I’d never watched the video. Kit (glasses and yellow sweater), did his PhD in Material Science here at Tech. They are going to be psyched that you posted the video on the ITE blog.

I think variable speed limits on the perimeter are a good idea. I wonder if DOT might consider raising the max speed beyond 65 eventually. To make a case for it, they would need performance information about both improved traffic flow and speed limit compliance rates after the electronic signs are installed.

  2. This made me super uncomfortable just watching it. Just… general discomfort. No commentary on right/wrong/good/bad etc… just… uncomofortable.
